Mikaele Tu-u
Talofa lava, o lo’u igoa o Mikaele Tuu’u. I am married to Rachael and have two children, George, 5 and Isabel, 3. I am the Kaiārahi Toiora for the Southern Region at Te Aho o Te Kura Punamu, The Correspondence School. My role is to lead of team of kaiāwhina (support staff) to work with at-risk ākonga/students from around Te Waipounamu. I am also a member of the Regional Well-Being Group, with oversight of our at-risk (concerns) register. I work closely with the Regional Manager for Te Waipounamu and our Counsellor. Another part of my role is oversight and co-ordination of our well-being strategy in Te Waipounamu. Prior to this, I was Head of Middle School at St Andrew’s College, with pastoral and academic oversight for all students between Year 9 – 11.
In my spare time I like to coach and play volleyball and I love watching most sports, especially the Warriors (long-term, not bandwagon!). I value spending lots of time with my whānau, whether it be swimming, road trips and or play at the playground.
I am passionate about ākonga well-being, mental health and working with vulnerable rangatahi.
